Yard Sales Operative – Stonehouse Branch

Main Purpose of Job:     

  • Serving customers with general building product
  • Order picking for deliveries
  • Loading and unloading vehicles
  • Stock control, waste management and yard security
  • Yard housekeeping and organisation
  • Working together with other branch staff to proactively create a safe working environment.

Main Requirements of Job:

  • Good customer service skills
  • Counterbalance forklift licence desirable – training available
  • Knowledge of building products desirable
  • Health and Safety awareness
  • Self-motivated, ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative

Main tasks of the job:

Customer Service

  • Serve customers quickly and efficiently, ensuring paperwork is completed fully and correctly
  • Assisting customers with queries

Loading, unloading and order picking

  • Picking orders and loading company vehicles ready for delivery
  • Loading and unloading supplier vehicles
  • Moving and arranging stock both manually and using mechanical lifting equipment
  • Carry out daily plant checks before use of equipment

Security and Theft

  • Completing all paperwork fully to reduce risk of theft
  • Report to the branch manager any suspected unlawful behaviour

Stock Control and Waste Management

  • Rotating stock
  • Liaise with stock controller to manage stock effectively
  • Waste management and recycling where possible

Housekeeping and Yard Merchandising

  • Proactively maintain a high standard of general housekeeping
  • Assist with Yard merchandising

Health and Safety

  • Comply with health & safety procedures at all times
  • Report to the branch manager any unlawful behaviour or hazards
  • Maintaining a high standard of general housekeeping


  • Basic 40 hours Monday to Friday between 7:30am and 5:00pm
  • Saturdays on a rota basis 7.30am – 12.30noon
  • Some Bank Holidays
  • Stocktake weekend

Salary – £18, 028.73 plus bonus and benefits
